when they relese them into the wild couldnt they be eatin easyer because they glo and then it could endanger zebra danios because if they breed with a regular zebra they will glow to then get eatin in the dark IP: Logged |

It's unlikely that they would cause problems by interbreeding with regular zebra danios. If they only glow under blacklight, what's the difference. If they do make for a less viable fish, they will be eaten and that genetic variant will be removed (kudos to Charles Darwin). Not that I'm saying release of genetically modified livestock (animals and more importantly PLANTS) isn't a problem - it is. Just in this case problems are unlikely. In my opinion the bigger problem is the release of non-native species with the potential to displace native species or disrupt animal populations (think snakes making it to Hawaii) IP: Logged |

I heard that they are only sold in fish stores. They sell for $10 here!!!! I was amazed that they cost that much. Do they look any different from zebra danios if they are not under a black light??? IP: Logged |

Why would you want to buy a fish that would glow under a blacklight knowing that in time the light from the blacklight would cause them to go blind. IP: Logged |
