my tank has finally cycled!!!!! I am waiting a week to let the bacteria be before vaccuming and doing 25% water change. After checking out the local pet stores for algae eaters for my 10 gallon(I was going to get an Otto but the store both have had bad luck with them and currently don't have them) I am thinking about getting 1 clown plecostomus. Any feed back would be great! Thanks!! IP: Logged |

Where I work, we never have problems with Otto's. They're really good algea fish for small tanks. I'd suggest one of those over any type of pleco, just to save you room for fish you really want. If the store you shop at is having trouble with Ottos, it makes me wonder how the rest of their stock is faring. Use good judgment and becareful with any fish you buy. And it doesn't hurt to shop around. Good luck and happy fish keeping! IP: Logged |

Hi concerned, A lot of times pet shops will lay the top of the bag over the side of the tank when they are aclimating fish to keep them from jumping out. You can't do this with Otto's they will air starve very quickly. This may be the problem your local pet shop is having with Otto's. The Clown Pleco is nice if you are going to be going to a larger tank, but for a 10 gallon you're better off getting Ottos. IP: Logged |
