I have a 3" gold gourami that up until about 2 months ago was perfectly peaceful. Now he is terrorizing my 20 gal tank, it has 5 tetras, 1 swordtail, 1 male betta, and 1 pictus cat. He began just by chasing the others but he progressed to killing the smaller ones one by one (I don't have proof, just suspicion). He settled down for a while but just today I saw him fighting with my betta, and I must say the betta held his ground fairly well! I only have one other tank containing one mean melanochromis auratus cichlid which I could transfer him to. Would this be okay or would he be killed? I have tried calling the two pet stores in my area and they flat out refuse to take in any fish at all. So this is basically my only option other than waiting for the gourami to die of old age. Thanks for the help! Merry Christmas!!

Hi tina1, I hate to tell you this but it sounds like you have the choice of losing your smaller fish or losing the Gourami. The Auratus would kill the Gourami. The only other solution I can offer for you to try that has worked for me sometimes is if you can catch him when he is terrorizing the smaller fish catch him and hold him out of the water for about half a minute and then put him back in the tank. After a couple of times of this procedure he might understand it's not acceptable. Like I say it has only worked sometimes and doesn't work with every fish.

hey Tina,
another option you have is to get a plastic partition that would seperate the two and therefore you dont have to get another tank.
Your post doesnt say anything about how big your other aquarium is so Im not sure if it would work well.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestions everybody! Unfortunately I am attempting to grow quite a few live plants in the tank and I don't want to uproot them, I don't have what you might call a green thumb at all. Although on a bright side he seems to have calmed down these past two days, maybe if I just don't get any new fish he'll be okay with the one's in their already. Thanks again for the advice!
