I have a pair of fighters, I was trying to breed them, with a tank 1 1/2 foot by 3/4 foot. It is a glass tank, I put a some aquatic plants, actually it seperates the tank into 2. The male is on one side and the female is on ther other, they can move to the other side through the plant. The female laid around 300 to 400 eggs after 2 days, I removed the female and I left the male with its nest and the eggs. After 3 days the eggs are not there and I can only see a few of them(around 30) I dont even see the small fighter fishes. So, what do you think would have happened? Please advice..Will the male eat all the small ones? What should I do now? With regards, IP: Logged |

Uhh! No fair! You got yours to breed! I have been trying for months, and it just won't happen! All that ever happens is the female just about killing or, as in the last try, killing the male! Well, it sounds to me like your male ate the eggs. They do that sometimes during the first spawning! The females will also eat the eggs, which is yet another reason to take her out! Glad you at least had a little luck! *Sarah* IP: Logged |

yeah the male probably ate the eggs. they sometimes do this. next time when the females ready , and the male has a bubble nest, then put them together and the male will squeeze the eggs out and put them in the bubble nest. but take her out after this is over and when the fry hatch , take out the male too. All I can add is I've heard it is very dificult to breed bettas. Even if you do manage to get some fry, they are pretty frail and most will end up dying. -Chelle IP: Logged |

The eggs should've hatched within the next day. When they hatch the male eats the fry. They don't eat the eggs. IP: Logged |

i can prodly say that i have breed bettas it was in a 10 gallon tank about half full and put a air surplealy for the fry because they can't get air like there parents and get a stirfoam cup and cut it in two and put of the cup in a corner of the tank and put a the male in there for about a day and the female will get a white spot on the bottom of here stomach that means she is ready to breed make sure the water temputer is right put her in the tank with the male and kind of keep a eye on them and when they are done breeding the female will go to the bottom of the tank and at the point take her out of the tank the male will gard to eggs and one more thing the male will bit and bet on her it is normal he is seeing of she is good enough to meat he's stardards well talk to you later.
