I've seen this post on a couple other boards but no responses. My betta is developing a bloated stomach and his scales around the area are looking white. My friend's fish was having the same problem and it didn't live very long after. Does anyone know what it is or what to do? thanx

It sounds like your betta has Dropsy there is really no known cure fore this. You could try Marycyn 2 but I have never had any luck with curing this.

I think you can buy medicine for Dropsy in the petstore, but I am not sure.

For Dropsy the only medication that I know of that will work is Tetracycline and it can be just as devastating to the fish as the Dropsy is. This is going to be true of any med that is strong enough to cure Dropsey, so in treating the Dropsey you will need to isolate the fish from any other fish. Sorry this is the best I can help you with on Dropsey.

Your Betta most likely has droopsy. This is a fairly serious fish disease that causes your fish to bloat and sometimes the pressure becomes so severe that it can cause the fish to do die. I just lost an African Dwarf Frog (aquatic frog that can get the disease) to droopsy! He/she had a severe case that caused it to float at the top of the tank. I began treating it with macryn 2, nut I had waited too long. The bloating did begin to go down, but it was to late. If you want your fish to live you better begin to treat it imediately or it will die!
