My husband is looking into getting a 55 to 100 gallon tank in the near future and was woundering what fish make the best pets? He is looking for fish that are easy to maintain, friendly towards other fish, and colorful. He is kinda new to the whole fish thing so any pointers to these fish would be helpful. Thank-you! I say get some Bala Sharks. Brilliant silver color. They look great in schools and are very quick. I have 6. They are my favorite. I guess there are more expenseive more beautiful fish out there. But my fav are bala's so far. go here for a picture. http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=www.users.bigpond.com/rjeb/bala.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.users.bigpond.com/rjeb/bala.html&h=310&w=522&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dbala%2Bshark%26svnum% 3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF-8%26sa%3DG or type Bala shark on google. and youll find one. Everyone will have an opinion. My advice is to www.aquariumfish.net (an OK site, I can't find my favorite link since our server was updated). Cruise through the pictures of fish, read a little about their temperament, requirements etc. There are as many opinions about the best fish as there aquarists. I'll contribute my 2 cents though For ease of care, interesting behaviour and nice colouration I think that gouramies are the way to go. Give them lots of plants (real or fake) and watch them build away at bubble nests. There are many different sizes and colour patterns and they make good community fish. For pets, I still like goldfish. I don't think they get their props in the aquarium world because they're common, inexpensive and easy to care for. I have a tank of common "feeder" goldfish and they now swim to surface when I come to the tank and like to bump up against my fingers. One is even pretty close to eating out of my hand. They can live up to 20+ years, but can grow quite large. The fancier varieties stay smaller. IP: Logged |

if u are gettin a tank that large, i would suggest cichlids. they come in MANY different colors/shapes/sizes and when they mate they guard their fry very closely, and u can have more then 1 species of cichlids. some cichlids like this would be electric blues/red zebra/jewel/kenyi/yellow lab./rusty and many, many more.
