my swordtails and guppies seem to always die of the same disease. they seem to be plagued by a white substance on their lip. it eventually kills them. i always loose fish in this way. i then kill them as a mercy killing as they seem to be in great pain. their tail fins also seem to close up and stick together. this seems to happen most with my baby guppies. could i get some help? It sounds like cottonmouth, a fungus. There are antifungal treatments out there, read them to make sure they're compatible with your fish and use them exactly as directed. If your fish are getting sick all the time, it could be a tank maintenance issue. How often do you do water changes? How much water do you remove? Do you siphon the bottom of the tank to clean the gravel? 1 tbsp of NON-IODIZED salt (aquarium salt) per 5 to 10 gallons might help as well. Just make sure you take into account any salt that already present in any medication you use. IP: Logged |
