Besides a swollen stomach, how can I tell if my black molly is pregnant? Is there any behavior that I should be looking out for? Are there any other physical characteristics common to pregnant mollies?

Thanks a bunch.

It might not be much help but my close friend bought a black molly resently and noticed that it's tummy was inlarged and it was very lazy. About 5 to 6 days after she had bought the fish it gave birth. I hope you find out about your Black Molly!! GOOD LUCK!

Thanks. The molly still hasn't given birth so I'm wondering whether she really is pregnant after all. I guess if she hasn't given birth by the end of next week, she probably isn't.

Your black molly has a very good chance at being pregnant. Live bearers like the molly are always breeding and if you have a male and a female you should expect monthly fry! The gestation period for a live bearers is about a month.

I added another female molly so the first female can get a moment of rest. The male chases her around mercilessly trying to eat her poop. Now he's chasing the new molly. Do the males do this more when they know the female is pregnant?

Well, my black mollie had her fry. I'm really wondering whether they can make it without going into a breeder net. Do they have any chance at all with 3 adult mollies around if I leave them to hide in the plants/gravel?

Help!!

Hi newbie, With the adults in there it is very questionable. If it's a 10 gallon you can try floating a lot of fine leaved plants like hornwort for them to hide in and feed off of.

I'm afraid to put real plants in there because I have a bunch of baby snails in my tank and I was told (on this site) that it's likely from the live plants I have in there now. I don't want anymore snails so maybe I can put artificial plants in there?

Hi newbie, Most likely the snails in your tank were already hatched out. If they were from eggs when you put them in there, there would be far more than three snails. In adding new plants just rinse them real well under tap water before putting them in the tank to remove any unwanted critters.
