i have a 20 gal goldfish tank with a 4in black moor, a 2in fantail, a 3in red ryukin, and one poor little 1in blue oranda -heres why he deserves sympathy..... about a week after putting him in i noticed he was missing an eye! to my surprise i called the fish store suspicious of some type of disease... this didnt seem to be the case as it was just the one fish and all others seem fine. 1 week later he was missing his other eye!! now quite perplexed i figured he was just some kind of FREAK fish whose eyes have just "fallen" out! now 2 months later i just added 2 half inch black moors and came down this morning, fed them, and went on my way... an hour later i return and ONE OF THE NEW LITTLE BLACK MOORS IS MISSING HIS EYE!! and i must say it isnt pretty at all! so there i am pondering what curse has been laid on my tank when the big 4 inch black moor comes over and sucks 1/2 the face of the little guy in his mouth! this 4in black moor always sucking in every direction in a constant search for food has the strength to suck the eye balls right out of a small fishes head!! YUCK! i took the 2 new little guys out (one less an eye!) and put them in a little goldfish bowl.... the blue oranda has nothing left to lose and he still comes to the top and eats when i tap on the lid so i'll just leave him in there. i had NO IDEA that this could happen! has this ever happened to anyone else when housing larger goldfish with little ones? LOL...sorry about your poor little fish. Is it still alive (the no-eyed one?) I havent had this experience but then again I havent been at it long. I do know that when I brought a plecko home about a day later it was dead and the other fish took his eyes out. Must be a delicacy! Good luck to the poor little guy! IP: Logged |

Hey!! I have had this happen too, more than once! I think the eye is just weakly set in the socket(obviously) and get knocked out easily. Ive had more than one moor end up with no eyes, but they feed off the bottom and do well! Once I saw one eat the eyeball, after it fell out!!Yummy!! IP: Logged |
