I have a Emperor 280 gallon per minute water filter for a 46 gallon tank that holds 3 piranha's will this be enough filtration for when they get older or will I need to get a bigger filter?

Thats 280 gal per hour but Im not trying to be a smarty pants and the Emperor is one of the best filtering systems out there. It provides all 3 of the necessary fitration componant: chemical, mechanical and bioligical. With that filter on a 46 gallon tank you shouldnt have any trouble at all. I have seen that same filter on up to 55 gal tanks they was just as healthy as any other.

Thank you
Samson

That's enough filtration. The problem is not enough tank when they are full grown.

The size of your tank is not to bad. But, should consider 20 gals for every P (Red Belly). P's grow pretty fast until they get to about 6" and then about an 1" a year till they are full grown about 10". A 55 gallon with a Emperor 400 would solve your problems with monthly water changes. I would go the 400 as soon as you can with the 46 gallon. I use two one a 75 gallon, with a 300 watt heater, no problem what so ever. Good luck, Chuck
