hello out there!

please I hope someone could help me! my goldfish are about two years old and all of the sudden they wont eat and they stay at the bottom of the tank. we change the water and we did different tests and every thing seems fine. the only thing is we changed to a different brand for carbon in the water. and the water seemed to turn orange. thanks for reading this!

Hello Maggie, I'm not sure what is wrong with the goldfish other than possibly being stressed out from a change in water clarity. I don't know of any brand of carbon that would turn the water orange and sounds like the carbon may be contaminated. Any sediment from carbon would be black or grey. It is a good idea to prerinse carbon before placeing it in the filter because there is usually quite a bit of powder sediment with carbon. I would consider going back to the old brand of carbon and doing water changes to get the coloration out of the water. Hope this helps.

Thanks for answering. My fish are back to normal and swimming happily. I went back to the carbon that I always used (Black Diamond) and bought a larger pump (Top Fin 60) The water is crystal clear now with very little maintenance. (Doing weekly tests of course) Have a Good one!
