The two angelfish I bought a couple weeks ago, and was asking questions here wondering if they'd paired, have laid hundreds of little white eggs on a sword plant leaf! the male bit my arm today when I did a water change, now I know why.
I am so surprised and tickled!!

Hello dianenm, the most common problem you might encounter is the eggs fungusing. You might treat the tank with Methalyne Blue and place an airstone next to the eggs to circulate water over them. This should help with fungus problems. The eggs should be an opaque white. If they are solid white where you can't see through them a little then they probably aren't any good.

oh yes, they started fungusing almost right away, turning bright white. there's about 10 of them all white when we turned on the lights this morning. I put in some antifungal last night, that I had laying around, some cheap green stuff, but not sure it'll do the trick. where do you buy the methalyne blue? I read maroxy will work with eggs. that is pricey, though I have it on my list to buy today. is the blue stuff cheaper?
It is interesting watching the behavior of the parents, mostly the mother. she eats out the fungused eggs (in fact they are almost all gone now since I started writing this) and also rubs her body across the eggs from time to time as well as hovers over them flapping her fins a lot. I don't have great hopes for this first batch to make it, though a couple survivors would be nice..

That's interesting. I'd like to know, though, I'm probably answering this myself..When they rub against the eggs, they are basically covering them with a protective slime coat to keep them from getting fungus and diseases right?

You can find Methalyne Blue at almost any pet shop. It is considerably less expensive than Maroxy, and covers a little broader range in treating fungus. Methalyne Blue is what most wholesalers use when they ship tropical fish. Normally I prefer the Mardel products in the treatment of fungus, but for breeding purposes I prefer the Methalyne Blue as a preventitive. Also the pattern you noticed of the female fanning the eggs is the same reason I mentioned the airstone, to circulate water over the eggs.
PS. If you have already started treatment with another medication it is not advisable to change medications. You mentioned green stuff which is probably either Malachite green or Analine green. Malachite green is another common fungus preventative. If it is Analine green it shouldn't be used with smooth skinned catfish.
