I have like 15 goldfish in a 50G tank... I know that's probably way too many, but they were boughten for my crayfish to eat, and he strangly can't catch them... Today I bought some type of Plec from Petsmart, the lady stupidly did not tell me what kind it was, but said it would grow to be about 18". So I was wondering how fast the Plec, and the goldfish would grow. Also... what do I feed the plec, I bought him shrip things, not realizing they were only treats, and now i don't know what to give him.. IP: Logged |

Not stupid at all!! if you have lots of algae your pleco will eat that and you can supplement with sinking algae tablet/wafers.. drop in when you turn lights off for the night. your crayfish might like the shrimp tablets though ; ) my plecos have always grown pretty slowly. the biggest I've gotten them is like 5-6 inches so I wouldn't worry about him getting as big as the petstore lady told you. if he does get too big, you can trade him in to your local fish store. What type of plecos did you get? The common pleco can get quite large and aggressive as it grow bigger. IP: Logged |

I really don't know what kind they are, the lady didn't tell me, I searched for hours on the internet and couldn't find any pitcures that looked like mine. But i'm guessing he's a common one. IP: Logged |

well, goldies can grow pretty fast. I've had beefy for almost 4 years and he's gone from 2 inches to just about 6 (excluding the tail). And just recently I bought a pair of ryukins, both were again, 2 inches, and are now about 4. Plecos ...well, I bought this recent one and it was (2 is the favorite number here) 2" and is also about 4 inches. This is all within about two months. Then again, I have a 55 gallon aquarium so they have plenty of room to grow quickly. ---- Also, yes, there are way too many fish in that tank. Crayfish aren't fast eatters and as bodies rot they will let enough ammonia out to kill everything. If not that, you'll have some serious disease issues to deal with. next time, buy fish only when you need them. [This message has been edited by Ahkahna (edited 11-18-2003).] IP: Logged |

the algae wafers will work as a good everyday food, but it's a good idea to vary their diet some, you can try putting a lettuce leaf or a spear of zuccini in their for them about once a week they like this, and it's good to feed them more than just a few things IP: Logged |

beware of large plecos, i tradedmine back to the LPS when he got 13 inch he got very aggersive and was sucking on my other fish instead of eating the algea or the wafers. no im just gonna keep trading in when they get big for smaller ones. IP: Logged |

FORMULA: Good tank maintenance+large space+a lot of air+frequent feedings=fastest growth IP: Logged |
