Hi RachelB, I've never kept both of them together, but I have known of several people who have and only very few with problems. And in those cases it was the Oscars that beat up on the Severums. Hope this helps. IP: Logged |

thanks for the info, even though i didn't end up getting a servium...i bought a jack dempsy today to go in the tank with my two oscars thinking that it would be mean right back to them, but it's not it just runs and hides, so now i don't know what to do...i'm just hoping that they will ease up on him after a while IP: Logged |

My experience with Dempseys is that when I had just one in the tank they were very docile, but when I added a second Dempsey they both became more aggressive, especially if it was a male and female Dempsey. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the info. i kind of wanted to get another one anyway, and that gives me a reason to...But i do have some good news, the jd was getting picked on yesterday, which was the first day that i added him, but today it's better, my bigger oscar also the meaner of the pair is backing down and has a few marks on him like the jd stood up to him, i was worried, but that makes me feel better...Ow by the way did your jd's change color with their moods? When the JD's are being picked at, stressed or resting they pale in body color. When they are feeling good or kind of fiesty they get a real pretty black body color. IP: Logged |

Well after they caught him in the tank at the pet store he was almost black, and when i come in the room in the morning he will be almost black, and chasing my oscars, but for the most part of the day he is his normal coloring, and just does his own thing not really chasing my oscars, but just staying out of their way. Very interesting. Your JD colors up exactly opposite to what mine does. IP: Logged |

Well i guess it is true all fish are different even within the same species. With my oscars one is very aggressive, and one is docile unless being picked on and then he gets mean. IP: Logged |
