I have bunches of fish in my 10 gal, so I bought another tank to give them some more room. I have one smaller filter and a larger one (more power). I was wondering what fish I should put in what tank, so to have the least amount of problems? I have a goldfish (2 inch) and a slightly bigger plecostomus who doesn't bother it. Also have 2 frogs, 2 tetras, and a snail. I was considering splitting the tanks in those groups. Which tank should have the more powerful filter (i hear loud ones disturb frogs)? And does anyone know if albino underwater frogs can be dwarf - where I bought her from said they were full size, but she is still much smaller than the male? Any temperature suggestions for them? Should I wait to separate them till after Christmas - I need to take them home for 3 weeks (live in a dorm)and use the other tank when they are at my house? moving the fish may cause some unpleasant results. if the fish was moved expect that they will adjust to the new environement, this may take a while but some fishes don't really adapt to it. i think you should not take care of goldfish if you are taking care of carnivorous fish. goldfish are messy kind of fish. they require fresh water always. this means that the fish gets irritated when external things happen. try taking care of arrowana, osacars, knife fish or flowerhorn. these kinds of fish doesn't need water to be cahned weekly. i would also suggest that you hava an undergravel filter and an overhead filter. kill the frog. this is not a pet, its a pest. Hi Bobfactor7, First, about the only thing that makes sense in Shrek's reply is that moving can cause stress. This is true. You can help reduce it by transporting them in a dark (covered) 5 gallon pail (or use two for room). If the trip is long - you may have to aerate the tank using an air stone and pump (if you don't have an AC adapter to plug the pump into your car, you can oxygenate it a little by scooping water from the pail with a container and pouring it right back. The water will absorb some oxygen, but an airstone would be better.) Try to avoid large changes in water temp. Don't feed your fish for a day or two before moving them, it will reduce the amount that they foul their own water. When putting them back in their tank, use somthing like stresscoat (what I use-but there's similar products with different names) to help rejuvenate the slime coat and prevent infection. Be ready for infectious breakouts like ick or velvet. As for splitting them up keep the GF and tetras seperate because tetras like warmer water than GF. Plecos also like warm water, but will do well with your golfish for two reasons. They're adabtable and won't have too much problem with an unheated tank and the two of them will get quite big. Fancy GF (fantails, Lionhead, Celestial Eyes etc) grow to about 8", common and comets can grow well over a foot - if they are provided enough room to live that long. Plecos can also grow ovewr a foot in length in an aquarium. Eventually you may need a tank bigger than another 10 gallon for these 2, but not yet. I have 5 GF in one tank and no water quality problems at all. I do 20% water changes as any aquarist should. In the tetra tank, the snail is fine although you might want to look into an ottocinclus to keep the algae to a minimum (stays under 2-3"). Tetras in general max out at about 2", and like to school. If the GF and pleco were gone - you could look at adding some other tetras to this tank. I know nothing about albino underwater frogs - sorry. However, a pet is a pet Shrek. Lots of people might say that Gouramis aren't pets either - they're food! (On the same note - dogs, snakes, rabbits and pigeons fit in there too) IP: Logged |

as your frogs get bigger you will come home and wonder where your fish went. thoes **** things will try to eat anything. about 6 or 7 years ago I had one of thoes **** frogs try to eat one of my irradecent(sp) sharks. the frog was only about 2" and the shark was about 8" I came home and the frog was dead on his back with the shark sticking out of his mouth. Poor Frog, I get fish all about the smae size. My irridescents are cute!!! Just remember THE RULE. 1 inch of fishy per gallon IP: Logged |
