Iridescent sharks are actually catfish of the Genus and species Pangasius, pangasius. They are mild mannered. If he put his hand in the tank the only injury risk he would have is banging his hand on the tank or lid when they startled him by their rapid movement.

I have 3 irri sharks and they, like kc5gvn said, are mild mannered and peacful. They are probably also they most skittish fish you will ever meet. They are scared of practicly anything that they think is a threat. They will not bite (That I know of) and only face the risk of injury if they are bigger sharks (the 20 inch ones) They look like sharks but are actually catfish so you have the joy of having shark-like fish in your tank.

And id sharks are very stupid because when you go near the tank it swims away very fast and it wont eat unless the food floates near their mouth.

I hand feed my 4 id sharks every once in a while they will nip your hand. Which does not hurt in the least. Jason these fish are just skiddish not stupid. They always will swim very fast and hit the side of the tank if scared. This can be reduced by placing floating plants in the tank. I can even pet them so the answer is no they will not harm your 3 year old son.

Just so you know, iridescent sharks can get well over 4 feet long and aren't really suited for most home aquariums. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/pangasii/pangasiu/172_f.php

I am very knowledgable to ID sharks. As they grow so do I lol oh where talking tanks not waist line. I am presently working on building a 2000 gallon tank for my babies to grow into. I am well aware how big they get and ready to take care of them.

I wasn't speaking specifically to you, friendly to fish; more to anyone who bought iridescent sharks thinking they're only going to get about 10" or so (I've acutally seen them labeled that way).

Sorry Celle wasnt trying to be snappy or anything. My fish are very important to me so I just try to explain myself. As for building a 2000 gallon tank. Only one side will have glass the rest will be made out of wood. The messurements will be 8 feet by 8 feet by 4 feet. It will probably end up in my divorce once I do it. lol To treat the wood so it is cool you will have to use either marine wood or normal wood painted with a swimming pool paint that is ok for marine life. It is still in the planning phase. My LFS built a 400 gallon using this method and are helping me with the schematics and design for it. I keep them in buisness is why they are helping me lol.

Celle,

You will have to keep me posted on it as I will you. I have to spread the cost over time. I figure I have about a year to get it together. So let me know by the way love your tanks saw some pics of them a while back.

Oh, this is a long term dream. First I have to buy my own house which probably won't be for at least 5 years. But I will do it one of these days.

I am lucky in that aspect i have a house with a 2 1/2 car garage on a concrete slab with a work shop so I have the perfect place for it. From what I hear they are not to terribly difficult to do once you have all the proper materials.
