I have had an oscar for about one month. He seems to be losing his scales and he has a more whitish color now. Is he sick? What can/should I do? IP: Logged |

Need more information. Why is he losing his scales? Are there other fish in the tank that may be pecking at him? Is he rubbing himself on the gravel or tank decorations indicating the probability of parasites? Is he jumping in the tank and banging himself on the lid? With regard to the whiteish color, is it just the bare skin beneath the scales that have been scraped off or is it a white film covering the area indicating the presence of fungus? Probably in this case your best recourse is to bag your Oscar up and take him to your local pet shop so that they can see exactly what the situation is. I'm sorry I can't be more help than that. Again, need more info. How big is the oscar and what size tank is it in? Is there anything in the tank it could scape up against Remember that oscars change colour depending on what mood their in, if their stressed they'll be a much lighter color, sometimes almost white. When it is comfortable it will be dark. IP: Logged |

Thanks for your replies. I did go to the pet store for a consult. I also closely looked at my tank too. Seems my newly added firebelly fish from a friend was biting the oscar. s/he was also lighter because of the stress. The aggressive fish has been removed and the oscar seems much happier I hope my oscar is on the road to a stressfree and happier home. IP: Logged |
