1. I was wondering if the food I'm feeding my cichlids is o.k. Currently I'm feeding them Total Tropical gourmet flake blend. Today I bought Tetracichlid cichlid sticks for large cichlids (my cichlids are only about 2 inches though). Are either of these foods o.k. to feed my cichlids? 2.One of my cichlids has some soft fuzzy film like stuff bulging out by his eye. At first it was just white but now it looks pink underneath the white. Does anyone know what's going on? IP: Logged |

Either of those foods are OK. Just make sure not to feed them any more than they can eat in 5 minutes. Decaying food in the gravel leads to problems in the tank. The fuzzy film stuff is a fungus. Your local pet store can help you with the best medication to treat the tank. If you haven't added aquarium salt to the tank you might find it helpful to add some. I generally use 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons of water. Use NON-IODIZED salt. IP: Logged |

I'm no expert on cichlids as I haven't had mine very long but have read up some. I have a tank full over varying sizes (some 5 inches) all the way down to fry hiding in the limestone rocks. I have two females that seem to be almost constantly mouth brooding. I feed mine spirulina flakes, some kind of tetra flakes for cichlids for variety, and some small round pellets I think by new spectrum. the flakes are a must for the babies since they can't eat the pellets. I haven't tried any large sticks though I do have some large cichlids. fuzzy eye sounds like fungus. clean gravel, change filter, and treat with medication for fungus. I hate fungus. IP: Logged |

Thanks a lot for your help, guys. I was just wondering if something else was going on with the fungus because it was turning pink. I cleaned and treated the water with maracyn. My other cichlid had a little of the film on him too but he looks fine now. It's just that the one with pinkish fungus was scaring me. IP: Logged |
