Hi! Do any of you have suggestions on good online fish supply retailers? Or stores in the Los Angeles area? I've been searching a few, but there's so many I don't know which may be best. Thanks in advance. P.S. Is a gravel vacuum or siphon better to clean the gravel? Thanks. IP: Logged |

I prefer to do my shopping locally. By ordering online if you order one fish you end up paying for the fish, shipping and box fees. If you purchase the fish locally the box fees and shipping costs are divided out among the 25 to 50 fish that were shipped. Also, even though they may guarantee live arrival it doesn't cover the cost of shipping. So by ordering 1 fish you may end up paying the original shipping, the cost of shipping the dead fish back, and the cost of shipping for the replacement fish. In other words you've paid for shipping three times just to get one live fish. If you have a Petsmart in your area I've found them to be a good source for the more common fish. For the more unusual or rare fish your best resource is probably a local, independant dealer. With regards to which is better, a gravel vacuum or siphon, it is just a matter of personal preference. I've used both and the difference between them was not that great. If you stay with the hobby long enough you will probably end up with both of them like I have. IP: Logged |
