Hi I have a couple of questions I would like to ask: I have a 12 litre tank 1. What will happen if I put other fish with my Male Siamese Fighter and if it is ok to put other fish with him which one will be a good choice? 2. What fish should I not put in with him? 3. What is the life expectancy of the fish? 4. Is it ok to have a female with him? 5. What type of things do you suggest I add to my tank, it is empty at the moment (yes there is water in ) Thank you for your time [This message has been edited by erweetiran (edited 10-12-2003).] IP: Logged |

ok, the betta is fine with any other fish besides aggresive fish and another male of the species. it is fine with a female. life expectency is diff. from fish 2 fish considering the condititon of water etc. i suggest that you add natural/artificial foliage and rocks to your tank. also, u NEED 1/4" of gravel or substrate. hope this helps. DO NOT put a female in there, unless u want hundreds of little baby betas everywhere. The male will tear her up, or in some of my cases when i tried mating, the female will tear him up! He is missing a huge chunk of his tail, and it takes months (in this case mayb a year!) for it to grow back. Other things should b find, and u don't necessarily need gravel, that is just harder 2 clean. U only need that if u want ur plants sticking 2 the bottom. IP: Logged |

I have had my males kill other species if they could catch them, some are nicer than others....Bettas like small water changes instead of a massive tank cleansing,I have killed many bettas figuring this out also when it becomes neccessary to clean the rocks save most of your old water. Try to keep the temps. the same so as not to shock him.I hang a lavalamp base with a small bulb over my bowls for warmth and it looks cool too. Always dechlorinate and watch his fins closely for signs of fungus.I had one live to 4 and my current fish is nearly 5.
