I have a blue gourami that I believe is ill. For about two weeks, he has looked increasingly bloated on each side, toward his head. He was swimming and eating normally, but lately he is hovering more in a head down position. Any clue what this might be and how to remedy the problem?

goldfish and gourami tend to me more prone to dropsy. look at your fish face on and see if the scales are poking out like a pinecone. gourami females can also get pretty big stomachs just from being egg bound, which is not a problem at all. I had this dilemma awhile back. their behavior remains normal with egg binding, but I think they die within days to a week of showing signs of dropsy. You could try to medicate, but dropsy is almost always fatal, from what I've read.
good luck..
