Yesterday I bought 2 blueberry oscars from my local pet shop. Are these a real specie or are they coloured?

not sure of validity but i found this at: www.worldcichlids.com/faqs/oscarfaq.html#Anchor-Ca-37007

Q What are these Blueberry and Strawberry Oscars, and should I get one? - TOP

A Absolutely not. These are plain ordinary albino or lutino oscars that have been forced to live in water saturated in dye, fed foods soaked in hormones and dye. And most times have been stuck with a hypodermic needle and injected with dye. Not only is this practice immoral unethical and out right wrong, it also dramaticly weakens the fish; which if lucky will live 2 months....if you are lucky enough to have one make it to 6 months you will be left with nothing more then a sickly albino oscar, because the dye slowly loses its intensity and finally goes away entirely, this usually takes 3-6 months. The longest I have ever heard of one of these living is 1 year.

I just got one about three weeks ago and now i read its not going to live more than a year!!!!! again the LPS owners never said anything about them not being naturel. Wait till i go in there again, they will get a piece of my mind and no more of my business.
Well i'll show them my oscars will all be big and healthy and live a long time!!!!!!!
THERE NOT JUST FISH DAMN IT THEY ARE PETS!!!!

i would suggest that you do as much research as you can before you buy a particular species. or if it's one you haven't come across but feel you have to have before you leave the pet store, try to find out as much as you can from the employee's ask as many questions as you can.

no they are DYED. this is a cruel thing to do to a fish, i wouldnt suggest for anyone to support them. you have them now and im sure they will make wonderful pets, but they are more prone to disease and do not have a good amune system but still love them for oscars are great pets.

It is truley astonishing, how so many of you can care so much about this. But yet you belive a 30G tank is sufficient space for two oscar's.
