I live in a small house and having room for all my pets is becoming hard. I currently have a three gal Eclipse with my dwarf puffers, a 15 long with my buddies pirahna (and I'm hoping like mad that he'll get it out of my house soon!) and two 10 gals with hampsters in them. I'm also aquiring a quaker parakeet and a cockatiel in the next few months. SO, here's my delima. I just got a new aquarium, an Eclipse 12, and I'm wondering what to do. Should I set it up new, and get new fish, maybe a small saltwater setup? Or should I move my puffers into bigger surroundings? Any thoughts would be appriciated. Thanks. IP: Logged |

"maybe a small saltwater setup?" Bad idea please don't do it! With small marine tanks it becomes to easy for drastic changes to occur to quickly before you even see it let alone have time to counter it.Most books and referance material I've read says a min. of 55 for marine tanks but I would say at least 75 to be optimal. I'm all for giving fish more room, more than they "need". If I were you I would move the puffers to the new tank, make them happy and then maybe stock the old tank with a betta fish or something. ------------------ [This message has been edited by gr8fuljames (edited 10-03-2003).] IP: Logged |

"... two 10 gals with hampsters in them...". How many inches of hampster are you running per gallon? LOL IP: Logged |

Give your puffers more room- they'll thank you for it! The marine systems are pretty hard to deal with at first and, since you seem to love all of your pets, it would be safer to wait to begin the marine tank when you have more money space and time. IP: Logged |
