I have just bought two bala sharks and two goldfish. The bala sharks are a little over an inch long and the goldfish are just an inch. Can I keep them in the same tank?

no. goldfish require room temperature water whereas bala sharks are tropical fish and require water at around 78F.

I've never kept goldfish, but for around half the year here, room temperature is 76-80 in our home. could I not keep goldfish? is 78 degrees too hot for goldfish?

Most of what I've read say low 30's to high 60's or mid 40's to high 60's depending on species. That being said, my goldfish are thriving at 72 F. 78 might be too warm, I don't know if they'd be susceptible to disease at that temp. Has anyone here tried to keep goldfish in water this warm?

They can survive at 78 degrees but it will shorten their lifespan, and they are much more suseptable to fungus problems. What is interesting to note is that everyone worries about Goldfish at those temperatures, but don't give a second thought about catfish, another cold water fish, at those temperatures.

What do some people have against goldfish!? Just because they're don't require really expensive set-ups (except for big tanks) are hardy, can be found and are legal to keep anywhere, and can be trained to eat out of your hands (mine have started swimming about the surface where I pat them on their heads), does this make them less of a pet? I spent some time in Asia over the last couple of years, and if you spend anytime in the Hong Kong fish markets, it is dominated by goldfish and koi. Many of these fish compete in multi-national competitions for large prizes and potential fortunes in demand of breeding stock. Pets are pets, let's not cut down other people over an aspect of the hobby that you don't know very much about.

They are very succuptable (sp?) to diseas and Wen I got one it died before it even got into the tank so what i mean is they're not reliable.
