OK i have a 120 gallon tank with my beloved cichlids in it now my huger red devil, his girl the flower horn, a red freckled cichlid, a fenestratum, and 4 red bellied oscars all nicknamed *piggie* but here is the thing.. i live in Hampton roads va wich for those who dont know is the most south eastern part ov virginia on the coast in the path of Hurricane Isabel.. so this is going to be fun. I got a special thing made out of plywood for them kinda cages up the whole tank set up to protect it the best i can seeing as moving it is out the question.. but when the power goes out.. *IF* it does hopefully it will all blow over is there something battery operated i can can use for water circulation or something battery operated to create bubbles to keep it oxegenated short of dumping tons of plants in there and praying they will pretend they are beta's for a few days.. Even thought of buying a battery operated wisk but my oscars are wayyyyyy to curious!!! might hurt something or some fish!! So im doing a good water change tomorrow and vaccuming my rocks real good but dont have enough air in me to use a straw to blow bubbles plus carbon isnt thier style i wouldnt think.. so if anyone has any ideas hopefully by wednesday early afternoon i will be very thankful!! gotta keep my babies alive through whatever showes up at my doorstep :-) thanks for any help-cichlid lover... BTW SOOOO out of context but does any1 know how i can create a folder or something to show my babies off? see who i am trying to save thanks again

There are battery operated air pumps your lfs should carry them. One thing about them is I'm not sure how much air you can push with a battery unit I never really looked into it much I just know I've seen them in passing. I guess it would be possible to use more than one and not submerge the stone all the way to the bottom. This would allow the weaker pump to still push air and would be better than nothing.
If you wanted to get fancy I've heard of people using power inverters and such. There more expensive than the pumps. Another option would be those battery backups they sell for computers not sure how long they last but you could run a pump and filter on one and maybe even a heater if needed.
Third as long as you don't get evacuated you could do like someone I know in N.Y. during their power outage. If the hood/lid fits tight remove it then take a pitcher or large cup scoop up some water then dump it back in kinda rapid. This will stir up the water as well as create air bubbles. Really as long as you break the suface tension on the top you will oxygenate the water. Do this for about five minutes every twenty minutes.
I hope this helps out some. I hope I'm not to late. Let us know How it turns out.

Petsmart carries a battery operated pump that uses 2 "D" batteries for $15.99. Don't try to use the pump for filtration. It won't be efficient enough for that. Just put the airstone below the waters surface. As long as you're providing air to the tank your fish and the bacterial filtration should survive. Here is the web link for the information on the battery operated pump. http://www.petsmart.com/fish/shopping/air%5Fpumps/products/product%5F28275.shtml
