I've noticed several 1gallon goldfish tank setups complete with filtration systems gravel and decorative plants for between $25.00 and $30.00 US$ I'm pretty sure they would make totally lousy homes for goldfish since goldfish grow so large. I use Stress Coat brand. It contains Aloe Vera as one of it's ingredients...I don't know what Aloe does for the fish but it's in there....the reason I use Stress Coat is because the information on the bottle says it does the following: It also says it helps repair damaged skin and fins as well as replacing their slime coating...at any rate it only costs like a buck ninety-nine for a 1oz bottle...what's a couple of bucks when you're talking about keeping your fish healthy? I mean really...fish are pets even Betas and Goldfish...we as humans choose to keep them in bowls and tanks when really if you think about it they are wild animals...Isn't it the least we can do to try to make their environments as healthy and pleasant to live in as possible? i personally would say that would be a fine tank for 2 bettas. betta's after-all, are sold in the little cups and like u stated, dont need much room. just be careful not 2 get 2 males, or there will be a fight to the death in that tank. IP: Logged |

I'm shocked that irresponsible petstore owners would be selling 1 gallon tanks and calling them goldfish tanks. Some of these people just don't understand that it's torture to be letting goldfish live in such a small crowded environment. Let's see how they like it when they're officespaces or bedrooms have just about enough elbow room to pick his nose .... IP: Logged |

I don't know if I would use filtered H2O from the fridge, although if your filter removes chlorine and lead it would probably be OK - if warmed to tank temperature. I personally don't like adding too many chemicals to my tank and so never use water conditioners (chlorine removers). I boil it (only have smaller tanks in my apartment) and let it sit. The chlorine will escape to atmosphere. Chemicals might "neutralise" chlorine but they will only be then removed during regular water cahnges. Even if the water is allowed to sit for a few days, the chlorine will escape. My parents water is piped 5 miles from the town they live in, and to my shock they add it directly to the tank in regular 25% water changes. The fish are fine and I can only assume that the chlorine is at such a negligable level that is has no effect. IP: Logged |
