i reacently was handed down some red bellied piranah, or paccu im not sure which, but they eat terrapin food, the problem is that a week ago both started turning black but the biggest of the two has a large pink patch in the shape of the country india, on his side, and the top of his patch there is a small strpe of silver scales which seem to be peeling off as if they have been sliced, an open wound kinda thing, on the pink part of him there are no longer any scales, i can see that he is in a great amount of pain and would do all i can to help, i have used anti-bacterial solutions and water conditioners, please help (new commer) sebbzy 'thankyou'

Try Melafix to speed up recovery from the scrape. Remove sharp objects or coarse rock, like lava rock, from the tank to eliminate the problem. Keep tank conditions at optimum to keep down problem of infections like fungus.

i herd that the get black right before they mate. my p's are still young so i havent seen this but thats what i herd.

yes i have 5 red bellies and they do turn black when courting check before you feed them see if one is thicker than the other you may have a female with eggs. they do have what you could say is rough sex so there could be some war marks...
