i would not recommend a black if your just starting out they are the most aggresive and they will jump out of the tank even with a light hood. they will kill anything else in the tank. i have 5 red bellies and they are awesome. i have had mine for a year i got mine from a local pet store they are legal in il and mo. it cost and small fortune to ship so i would try to find something close so you can drive and see what you are buying...
