Sounds like ich to me. You need to treat the tank and make sure you keep the water temperature constant. Ich is a parasite that is present in the water not just on the fish. It's not transmitted from fish to fish but from the water to the fish. IP: Logged |

Ich can be caused by bacterial overload, but is usually a result of rapid temperature changes in the tank (+ or - 2 degrees in a 2 4 hour period). If you see it externally on 1 fish it has probably already infected other fish in their gills. This is why a lot of times you will see fish dive and drag their side on the gravel or against rocks but there is nothing visible showing. I've found Maracide to be a good treatment for ich. You are correct about temperature. It should be at 80 degrees during treatment. I generally run my tanks 78 to 80 degrees even when they are not being treated. Also if you will maintain aquarium salt at a rate of 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons of water you will find you have less incidence of ich and bacterial problems. IP: Logged |
