I have red bellied pirana that I've owned for about a month and half now. I've noticed lately however, that he is very freightened when I move around my room even if I'm not near the tank. I was just wondering why this is, have I done anything to provoke this? I also had a question about cleaning the rocks, currently I leave the pirana in the tank while I'm cleaning the rocks, he doesn't seem to like it very much but I'm afraid to move him in case I injure him. Should I leave him in?

first all p's are skitterish. try covering the sides a little or tuning the light down i you can. you best shot is to let him grow out of it. make sure he has a hiding spot. second it is rather hard to hurt a piranha. they are actually pretty harty fish. if the water is the same temp and stuff you should be able to move him and clean the rocks. word of worning he may play dead and lie on his side. dont freak out like i did just leave him or give him a poke, he should be fine. if your tank is big enough you should just be able to clean the rocks on one side while he hides on the other. or take the rocks out to clean them.

hope this helps
