Recently one of my friends moved and gave me his Tiger Oscar. It's about 6 inches long. For the last week or two it's been in a tank seperate from my other two Oscars (One albino and another tiger, both about 8 inches long). I'm tired of having two tanks and was wondering if I could get some tips on adding the smaller oscar to the bigger tank. The two 8 inch oscars have been together for 9 months and get along great, and I don't want them to team up on the smaller one and kill him. Thank you to anyone who reponds. Nik IP: Logged |

I have seen in the past where a smaller oscar was added to a tank that had 2 larger oscars and the larger oscars never touched the smaller one. The small one was 1 1/2" and the large ones was 6". So I would say yours would be ok.

I tried to put him in a few days ago, and the other oscars ripped him to shreds. His fins are gone, sides are thrashed, looks like he was put in a blender. Any other ideas? Nik IP: Logged |

You probably won't like my idea because it will take some time but I'll offer it anyway. Feed your two 8" Oscars only once a day. The one 6" Oscar that is by himself drop just a little bit of food into the tank every time you pass it (no more than he can eat in a couple of minutes). If he is continually getting food all day long like he does in nature he will rapidly outgrow the other two. Once he is built up like the Incredible Hulk, aclimate him in with the other two and you should not have that problem. IP: Logged |

If he looks like that then flush and go get a bigger one. Thats what I would do.
