I have a strange white fungus growing in my freshwater tank? I have a underground air filter with about 2 inch of gravel. I have done a water change and took the top layer of gravel off and cleand it and returned it to the tank, but it returned within about 2 weeks!. Can anybody help or suggest anything I could do! many thanks. IP: Logged |

Your question actually raises more questions than answers. How long has the tank been set up. What is the PH. What type of fish do you have in the tank. Since the fungus is white, it would indicate that it is organic in nature (something that was once alive). Since you have cleaned the gravel and it has reoccured it is possible that it is something under the gravel in the undergravel filter. Did you have any fish that are now missing that may have gone down the riser tubes and under the filter and have died? Loaches and Botias often get under the gravel by going down the riser tubes. Also does the gravel have any small bits of wood in it that might be causing it to appear to be the gravel that is developing the fungus? Maybe these questions will help you get to the source of your problem. IP: Logged |

I have a perhaps similar growth on the bottom of my tank...it is grey and seems to congregate mostly around my plastic plants...but it is elsewhere (but its not everywhere)....its grey and sort of cottony looking, and its really sticky (and gross). I only have 3 clown loaches and i clean the tank regularly....? IP: Logged |
