my pacus are growing quite rapidly they are sharing a tank with various smaller fish some of them are small enough to be eaten do i have to worry about them one day taking the notion to eat them?

how long do you think i have before this happens the pacus are about 7 inch

hi there- my pacu used to share a tank with smaller fish. he was only bout 4 inches at that time. my advice to you is make sure you dont forget to feed your pacu. i forgot to feed mine one day and he got mad and at my sucker fish. he didnt eat the head...i took that as a waring from him. pacus have great personalities. dont piss them off.

My first large tank was a 50 gallon show tank. I started it with 3 Marble Angels about 3" each. Not knowing anything about fish at that time I added a 4" Pike Cichlid, 2-2" Oscars and a 2.5" Pacu. I kept all these fish together for nearly a year and none of them ever bothered the Angels, as strange as that may seem. Only explanation I can think of is the Angels were the first ones in the tank and were the largest when each of the other fish were introduced and the Angels established dominance. Will that always work? No! How long do you have to move your smaller fish? You may never have to move them or tomorrow may be too late. You can't ever tell about fish but the odds are to move the smaller fish as soon as possible. Just thought you might find this fish story interesting. It is a true story.

my pacus are now either eating or just destroying the plactic plants. i think im gonna remove all the plans and go with large rocks and logs. but i just read kc5gvn's msg about pacus pouting and not eating if i make a big change to the tank mmmmmmmmm what to do.

i currently have a 290 gallon fishtank with a 20" pacu and hasent eaten any thing put food(all the other fish are to big for his mouth) he often suprises visitors with his size

Go ahead and change the tank. They will probably prefer the new landscape. Just make sure not to get them so large that the Pacus don't have room to swim.Don't worry about the pouting either. They will get over it and start eating again when they get hungry. Believe it or not Pacus can go a long time without eating without any detriment to their health.
