While puffers are mainly fin nippers, the would probably be eaten by the piranha. Any fish will eat any other fish that fits inside its mouth, and piranhas will take on fish almost as big as them.

actually that isint really true the redpike cichlid i have could easily fit in the pacus mouth and the pacu doesnt try to eat it

Other fish will leave puffers alone because they give off a toxin when bitten, but you have to remember puffers have different water requirements. Puffers are brackish water fish.

ArrOwAnA, I believe if you will check on your particular species I think that you will find that it is actually a brackish water puffer (freshwater with higher salt content). I have never run across a TRUE FRESHWATER puffer. If it is a true freshwater puffer I would like to find out the species. Dwarfs, Malibars, and figure 8 are brackish.

there are puffers that will do just fine in freshwater, i have a green spotted puffer in freshwater and it is very happy, everything that i have read on them say that they will do just fine in either fresh or brackish, as long as you keep your water conditions consistant.
