Where you doing the water changes once a week? More? Less? Might want to try a larger,30-40% water change, and then a couple of days later do a 20%, and keep the 20% water changes up once a week, mabey more depending on how big a difference the water changes are making. Possably the most important question of all, How long as the tank setup? If it is recently setup, then it is just going tho the nitrogen cycle and clody water is normal. To help speed up the cycle, you can turn up the heater up a little bit. Add an airator to the tank to help out with the disolved o2 content in the water and see if that helps out the pleco gasping for air. IP: Logged |

I think the answer is in your badly underpowered aquaclear 300. Aqua clear is not exactly a great brand to begin with. you need a marineland bio-wheel 330 or larger , maybe an emporor. Then maybe you can use the media baskets in the filter to put in some activiated filter carbon. Then I would add an undercabinet cannister filter like a fluval or magnum just to be safe. Then you could go back to vacuuming the substrate and water changes every other week. Try aquarium salt to up the amount of oxygen dissolved by your fishes gils. IP: Logged |

The color of the cloudiness will give you an indication of what is going on in your tank. Amber to brown - overfeeding, green - algae growth, white - PH burn. Your description leads me to guess the color of the cloudiness to be white. The white cloudiness is actually suspended particals of slime coating from the fish due to PH burn. You can use the treatment Clear Water to break up the suspended particals, and dose the tank with a PH buffer like Novaqua to resolve the cause of the cloudiness. I suspect in doing your water changes you have taken the water from highly acid to highly alkaline. When doing your water changes dose the tank with Novaqua to remove chlorine/chloramine, buffer the PH, and restore your fish's slime coating. Also check your ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite levels. The higher your PH the more toxic ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites become. IP: Logged |

i solved my water problem by adding NUTRAFIN Waste Control Organic Waste Eliminator. I followed the directions and just waited it took about a week but the water is crystal clear my pleco is no longer darting to the surface to for air and all my fish are more active. I may be wrong but i think my Pacus are getting bigger day by day.they eat Cichlid sticks and love em they will eat as many as i put in. thanks for your help IP: Logged |

There's too much damn acid in your tank. You need more frequent water changes. Use aquarium salt and a stress coat. IP: Logged |
