Im getting a 60 gallon tank for a 4 inch arowana(im up grading to a 350 gallon or more in 3 years)I was reading about how they like to jump in there natrual habbitat for crickets and stuff well I just had a great idea. What if I filled mt tank with about 2 inches of gravel in the front and about 8-9 inces in the back, then I filled the tank up half way and then where the gravel in the back is still out of the water I plant some plants like the ones you use in betta vases all in the back. That way the fish could jump out for crickets and stuff like that and I wouldnt have to worry about finding him on the floor(i will still have a tight cover). Is this a good setup? Absolutely not! If you are going to have an arowana you need the most swimming space you can get. Dont put him in an amphibious enviornment. You put the crickets on top of the water they dont sink. They float and run their legs trying to get on land. If you had half land in your aquarium they would stay on land and if the arowana tryed to go for the he would be on land. All you need to do for the arowanas jumping is put a brick or two on top of the hood. How are you getting a 350 gallon tank? i Thought you were getting a 180. That never happened. Why would you be able to get a 350 they are thousand of dollars and youir only 13! Im not yelling im just confused. You obviously lied about you getting a 180 gallon tank what about this 350? You keep on saying that o i want this fish or o i want this one. How come you cant be happy with what you have? A week ago you were upsessed with a bass 3 days later you got upsessed with the elephant nose then the arowana now i seee on other post you want clown knifes and snakeheads. All those fish will grow out of your 60 gallon in a half of year to a year. You say your getting you 350 in three years. What are you going to do with the fishes for three years? They will easily die if kept in a 60 gallon for three years. Sorry for the preach. IP: Logged |

Here we go again... My elephant nose is fine in a 29 gallon tank with other fish.My bass is gone and I have been thinking about getting large fish.Im getting a 350 gallon when I move out of my moms house. No I didnt lie about getting a 180 gallon I saw how big it was in my house and it would take up alot of room so I got one that would go right with the house. The arowana WILL live in a 60 gallon tank for a few years,I have been to over 30 websites on arowanas and the all say that he could go fine in a 55 gallon tank for 5 or so years... No you are right the arowana will stay a couple years not 5 but a couple years in that size. But not with a clownknife and a snakehead. snakeheads grow fast. Dont do that thing with the gravel. Just have lots of free space. Yes i have one i love it. Im getting 75gallon tank on Thrusday!!!!!!!!(so excited) Glad to hear you released the bass, or did it die? But none the less you sound like you doing ok now. elephant nose is ok in a 29 gallon tank with angels.
You sound to have straightend things out a lil. Glad to see your doing better. Come to this forum listen to people and you will learn a lot! Its a great forum they are helping set up my new tank. http://aquaden.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=4 IP: Logged |
