I have a 72g tank and i am looking to keep piranhas and oscars in it. Ive read many ppl think oscars and piranhas dont mix but my friend has 4 red-bellied piranhas, 3-4inch, and one oscar, 6inch. they seem to get along fine, the piranhas charge the O on occasion but never bite. Just wanted to know what some of your opinions are about this idea. IP: Logged |

yeah id just keep Piranhas in there. A friend of mine had some Piranhas, he would feed them white mice. It was not a scene for the weak stomached people. the mouse would swim back and forth across the top, one piranha swam real close and nipped the mouses leg. then another one nipped another legs, and so forth. Finally the last piranha struck the torso and the entire skin of the mouse came off (everyone was really close to the tank watching, but at this point, everyone was slowly moving backward). After that it was a feeding frenzy. It was cool and all, but im glad i have a clown knife and arowana that swallow their fish whole =P IP: Logged |

What if i got 2 oscars, kept them until they were 5 inch, then introduced the 4 1-1.5 inch piranha? maybe they would grow up knowing the oscars are boss of the tank??? Also if the piranha are well fed do u think they woudl still attck the O's??? IP: Logged |

Well heres another problem,if the oscars are 5 inches lond and the pirahnas are 1-1.5 inches then the oscars would definatley eat the pirahnas.sorry but this just isnt a good idea.If you wanted a fish that looked EXACTLY like a pirhana get a red belly pacu or two theses go fine with oscars, your friends might think it is a pirahna. But one thing is wrong theses pacus need a tank of atleast 100 gallons and they get about 20 inches long. There realy amazing fish... I'd say bad idea... like the rest said, the piranhas will probably tear the oscar's to bits. IP: Logged |

I have a friend that has 7 Red Piranha's and 1 tiger oscar in a 125 gal tank. The Piranhas are all 6-8 inches and the oscar is about 12 inches he has had them all together now for about 2 years. By the way I also feed my red Piranhas mice its cool to watch. IP: Logged |

If you have seen the little eye-spot on the oscars tail you may wonder why they have that. The most accepted reason is because piranhas are the oscars #1 enemy. Piranhas like to sneak up from behind on larger fish and nip until they're no longer mobil then feast. I know form experience that your oscar will die without a doubt. It will die much slower and painfully the bigger it is, simply because they will have to nip more. IP: Logged |
