yo, ok i had a bright idea that i wouldnt feed my 5 piranas for a day or two thinkin it would b ok. I thought if i dont feed em so often when they do get a fish then they would eat it a whole lot faster, (less cruel and more fun to watch) I fed em thursday nite around 12ish then friday nite around 8 i came back and i found that the biggest pirana had a bite mark in his back, the skin was folded back and so obviously one of the other fish bit em, his fins are messed up a bit too. So are a couple of the other fishs fins. Should i be very concerned about this? the fishes all seem fine now, there all eating fine, but the big one seems a bit less aggressive when eating. Do i need to do anything to make sure the cut heals properly or anything? thanks IP: Logged |

This is very interesting.. I have four approximatly 5 week old piranhas, and I didnt feed them for a period, and the largest one was the first one bit. Dont worry about anything though, throughout your piranhas life they will bite each other... nothing to worry about though fins will grow back in a couple of weeks IP: Logged |

oh sweet so the fins will actually grow back? Thats good, all of mine were starting too look kinda grungy. looks funny though. Ive already noticed skin starting to cover up the bite now, looks like it should b healed pretty quick. Thanks Also, my ammonia level wont go down to zero, its around 0.5 and ive done water changes and dont even let uneaten food sit too long in the tank. are the piranas going to b ok in that level? I add some waste management stuff every now and then also. IP: Logged |

AMQUEL - To remove chlorine, chloramine and AMMONIA NOVAQUA - To remove chlorine, chloramine and restore the fish's natural slime coating - DOES NOT remove or break down ammonia IP: Logged |

I had a couple of red belly P's that had gotten in to it and a big chunk was taken out of his back. Sort of like a half moon. It wasent even able to swim for a couple of days when I came home he was just bobbing there with his head facing the bottom so I put in another tank. After a few days he began to heal skin grew over where he was bitten but he always had that half moon chunk out of his back and his dorsil fin never grew back. But he lived for about 2 more years and was able to swim fine was even able to catch feeder fish a few weeks after it happen. I never did put him back in with any other Piranhas. IP: Logged |

Actually i just looked today and the bite is almost completely gone, its just a bit darker where it got bit. The day it happened i didnt notice anything different about the way it was swimming so i guess it wasnt too bad. I have noticed now that it doesnt really catch the feeders but it still regulates. When it goes near the food the other piranas just back up and let em take his chunk. IP: Logged |
