Hi, I'm new to this group.Thinking of getting a 55 gal. tank and setting it up as a chichlids aquarium. I would like to have a few species in it as I like more colours. I don't know how to mix them. I know that some of them ar good fighters and some ar not. My question: Is there a guide of arranging a chichlid comunity tank?? IP: Logged |

I wouldn't mix, id go straight for the oscars. Four or five should fit in a 55 gal, oscars are the koughlest. IP: Logged |

If it's chiclids and diversity of color you want I would suggest you go with an all African Chiclid tank. Africans come in a wide variety of colors. While this is definately not a community tank you can cut back some of the aggressiveness by crowding the tank. Remember that Africans prefer more alkaline water. IP: Logged |

If it is color you want then you need to go with African Cichlids. be aware that when you buy them they will mostlikely change color as they mature. Do not mix African and South American cichlids, as they require different types of water conditions. And do not put 4 or 5 Oscars in a 55 gallon tank. And remember the cichlids will grow so do not over crowd your tank. IP: Logged |
