i just started over!!! i got a snail. i picked one that was moving along the tank at the store. now he doesnt move a whole lot, i have to put alge flakes on the bottom and set him on one. so that way i know he is eating. he will peak out from time to time. what should i do, should i take him back or what? i know he is not dead because i have had one die on me before! oh my that is stinky!!!!!!! You know, I wonder the same thing. I have two gold mystery snails that don't move much during the day at all, but were very active at the store.. I am thinking they are nocturnal? I've had apple snails die on me before too, I think they float when they are dead? Anyway, I'd also like to know the answer to this question! IP: Logged |

I have noticed that the apple snails at petsmart are kept in the same tanks as the live plants. I think apple snails prefer dining on live plants and not so much on algae. Smaller smails can survive on only algae, however the same is not true for the bigger snails. Try buying a small live plant for your snail to graze on, or maybe even a fresh piece of leafy vegetable. My daughter has kept land snails alive for years by merely feeding them lettuce and misting them with water. I think your apple snail will become more active in the presence of good green food! My tank is chock full of live plants. I noticed the first day one of the snails age a giant leaf off one of the plants, but I haven't seen this since (about a week or so). should I try the lettuce? thanks IP: Logged |
