They will stay alive for years if you have good filtration and do weekly water changes of at least 40 percent. I'm afraid goldfish grow rather large and they will need more room in the long run. Try and get some type of hang on the back filter, like a penguin biowheel. This type of filter will polish the water and make your job much easier! IP: Logged |

Thanks for the info but how much will a penguin wheel cost and if I got a 20 gallon aquarium would that be enough for them to be big and healthy? IP: Logged |

I'd say a thirty gallon would be okay. A Marineland biowheel 330 would cost you between 26 and 35 dollars, but it would keep the water cleaner and your parents will think that you're doing a good job keeping the tank clean!. It's a box that hangs on the back top of the tank and sucks water out through a plastic pipe, runs it through two filters and windmill looking things called a bio wheels. Then it dumps the water back into your tank like a little waterfall all clean and polished. Chemical, Biological and mechanical filtration all in one filter!Check petguyssupply.com or drsfostersmith.com for cheaper prices on filters, mail order. Good Luck!
