my red bellied pacu does not seem to be growing. considering the circumstances that i have 4 other small fish along with it in a 10 gallon tank might be the reason but i still feel it should be growing.

input needed

A RED BELLIED PACU IN A 10 GALLON TANK???????? Did you do any research on this fish before you got him? I don't mean to be rude but this fish under the right circumstances will soon outgrow even the largest of tanks. They can easily hit the two foot mark and keeping him in such a small tank with 4 other fish is without a doubt not healthy. I would say to eaither get him a much larger tank (at least 75 gallons for now) or return him to where you got him if you are unable to take care of such a fish. My red bellied pacu was about two inches in length when I first got him. Within the first week of proper care and feeding he grew almost an inch and a half. I've had him for almost 2 months now and he is about 10 inches long now. If he has not grown much in that 10 gallon tank I can understand why. He is not being taken care of properly and is being treated inhumanely. Please take care of him properly or take him back to the store. If you need info on pacu go to this site http://www.aspeninnovations.com/pacu/default.htm

uhh, actually i am taking very good care of my pacu, he is healthy, and does not show any signs of weakness. Also it might not be a red-bellied pacu i am sorry for that mistake. But dont go and tell me that i am taking care of it inhumanely.

I had my first pacu in a 10g tank for a few months and he didn't grow that much either. Someone told me that the tank size was stunting his growth so I upgraded to a 60g. After that he began to grow by the day it seemed. He was perfectly healthy before and after so I understand your situation. Just upgrade to a bigger tank.

If you leave that pacu in the 10 gallon tank, then sorry, it is inhumane. It doesn't matter how clean or clear the water is. It doesn't matter how healthy it is. A full grown pacu cannot turn around or swim in a 10 gallon tank. I know a guy that had a 10 inch fish in a 10 gallon. He begged me to take it off his hands. The fish was healthy. It now lives and swims in a 110 gallon tank. Your fish will grow quickly in a lake, fast in a 110 gallon and very slowly in a 10 gallon tank. Thats why your fish doesn't seem to be growing. Just a fact.
Good luck!

i had a red bellied pacu in a 15 gallon tank for a little while, and like you are saying, he just didnt grow. most commonly, a fish will not outgrow his surroundings or tank size, the fish's growth will just be stunted. im sure it could kill him over time, but i think you have ample time to upgrade to a larger tank and get it setup. i moved mine to a 30 gallon after a little while and he grew to be about 16 inches before i traded him back to a pet store.
