Hello everyone, I would like to purchase a red arowana. I am having a lot of difficulty finding a source that sells them, when i email them, they say that arowanas are illegal in the U.S.! is this true? I have heard of people in U.S. owning them and some owners have pics on the internet and pet stores in Cali are selling them for $1200 USD. So if they are illegal then what gives? Thanks. They are not illegal in the US. They are from time to time banned from being shipped from South America because they have to kill the parent by cutting open the sack on the parent that the fry (the 3" ones with the yolk sack) are carried in. Ther are generally 300 to 400 in a sack. When too many of the adult fish have been killed off South America bans them from being shipped. The Arowana is a food and game fish there. As far as I know they are not currently on an endangered list. IP: Logged |

Excuse my failure to take note of color and confusing South Americans with Asians. I had been up all night when I came across his post. IP: Logged |

As far as I know the ASIANS are illegal in the US. US hasn't changed the law about importing them, which they should since they are now being Farmed. IP: Logged |

I live in Singapore and I have an Arowana. Maybe it depends on the color but even a child could buy it from a pet store here. Heck, dont know bout da US though. IP: Logged |

really they dont have to kill the parents to get the babies. at arowana farms they bring the dad to a bowl of water. they hold the arowana upside down and shake. then eggs/babies come out IP: Logged |
