My male Betta Splendens might have a problem. He is a beautiful royal blue all over his body with almost no color impurity. Lately (about a week or so a go) I've noticed that the underside of his jaw, from just under his lips to the end of his gills, he has turned silver. I have him in a 55 gallon tank with 10 zebra danios, 2 corydoras, 1 whiptailed catfish, and 1 bala shark. My betta has been in the tank for about 3 months. He eats very well and has always thrived. His behavior has not changed at all, only the color of his chin. I could not find a disease that fit this description. So, is this a sign of disease, age or something else? All responses appreciated. "only the color of his chin." It's near Christmas so he's probably growing a beard! Just kidding . Its likely harmless.IP: Logged |

LOL. I made a trip to the pet store today and noticed that some of their male Bettas had the silverpatch in the same spot, but only some of them. I'm wondering if it might be something genetic, a recessive gene or something. IP: Logged |

Wouldn't be too far fetched. IP: Logged |
