i do frequent water changes, but my tank never seems to lose its odor. the water conditions are perfect. any ideas of how to keep the smell away?? IP: Logged |

mine is like that too.. i think its just normal =P.. the smell isnt really that horrible.... i can only smell it if i try to tho... not like i walk in the room and get knocked out from it =P IP: Logged |

It would help if you could be more descriptive of the smell. If it is "fishy" smell that is normal. If it is "rotten egg" or close to it....you are over feeding. If it makes you want to run out of the room, you probably have some dead fish or you need to syphon out the bottom of your gravel where nasty stuff is hiding. IP: Logged |

I use both cannister filters and hang on the back bio-wheel filters. When the tank starts to smell funky, I just re-load the charcoal cannisters full of the stuff and that seems to control the odor. If you use undergravel filters and your tank has been set up for a while, clean under the plates cause there's lots of buildup there! Hope that helps! IP: Logged |
