they usually lay eggs in spring or fall. mine layed eggs in both. i dont know why. signs of pregnaucy is that the male will chase the female around and it looks like they are picking on them. and bitting there butt. they will usually do this ALL day. there is no other way of telling. if you have more than one male. i recomend alowing one male to chase. the females will be extreemly tired. so allowing one male to chase is a little easier on them. also. the mail will get white spots on there gills. this is not ick. it shows that they are in heat.so. the best thing to do is get some kind of patch of grass to put at the bottom of the fish tank. your local pet store should have them in stock. and they can help you which one to pick. because your fish will eat the eggs like crazy. other than that good luck. click on my cry for help on the message board and see if you cant help me with my fish. sasha IP: Logged |

if you have other fish in the aquarium they'll most likely eat all of the eggs. Even the parents will. You might be lucky to have a mix, but it's not likely (from what I've heard anyway, I've only bred orandas). You want to remove the other fish, not the mating pair. It will stress them out. After eggs are laid, I usually removed pebbles and plants that had the eggs on them and placed them in the SAME TANK WATER in another smaller aquarium. Change the tank water once a day with new water from the aquarium (don't add water from the tap). This keeps the water cycled and fresh. White eggs mean they are dead. After a few days you'll start to see little eye balls. After about two weeks or so, they'll probably hatch. keep replacing the water. Eventually they'll get big enough (if they all survive) where they can have airation (air stones are perfect), Dont use a filter. hope that helps :P
