If you add plants(live or fake) to your tank it should calm them down. Pacus are pretty shy fish in general. IP: Logged |

Stop playing with the light and give them a while to adjust. They haven't seen light this bright in a while. Don't stick your hands in the tank with plants, this will just freak them out more. Pacu dig up and eat plants anyways. After about five hours with the lights on try feeding them whatever the ate at the pet shop. Stay away from the tank and keep the rest of the room dark and your fishies will do just fine! PATIENCE... IP: Logged |

when i moved my pacu into my 55gallon i noticed he wasnt very active. he stayed along the bottom, hid behind plants and wouldnt even come up to eat. one night when i turned the light off i noticed he was swimming up a storm. i read that pacus dont like to be in bright areas. take the subscription inserts from magazines and place them under the light, this will dim the light just enough for you to still see the tank and fish fine and for the fish to be happy. You'd better save your money for a swimming pool.....I'm not kidding. These fish do grow huge! One of the main reasons why they wind up turned loose in some pond or river. Freak people out thinking they've hooked a PIRANHA :-) Seriously, you will need a bigger, then another bigger, then another bigger aquarium for these giants. Good luck! IP: Logged |

Did anyone notice Newbie hasnt answered back? Maybe we are in luck and the pac's thought he was a WALNUT. But I must say if a petstore sold him that set up, they shouldn't be in business. Maybe newbie needs to move from the South Pole to the North pole and pickup on his way a Doughboy~~~ DH IP: Logged |

Let's not be harsh on him. It does take time to learn and how often do we buy fish on impulse wihout first looking into it? I started collecting fish about 5 years ago and I'm still learning. Though piranhas is my biggest interest of all. IP: Logged |
