Ok, I've heard a lot of nonsense on here about the Red Bellied Pacu! We've had two of them for four years with two Plecos and they're incredibly gentle fish. The biggest problem is they outgrow their tanks quickly.

They have grinding teeth in the back of their mouth, but this hasn't stopped me from sticking my hand in the tank and petting them. When I bought them they were less than the size of a quarter, now they're 20+ inches long and close to 3 inches wide.

These gentle giants are vegitarians, but some people have given them live fish, meat, etc, and they would probably swallow little tank mates if they are stuck with no other options.

If you get one of these you need to plan to get at least a 125 gallon tank(think bigger in the 200+ range for more than one)or else they will look like one of those bettas in their tiny bowels from the store when fully grown.

If you like plants or ornaments/big rocks in your tank forget it!!! They'll promptly eat the plants whole and smash the tank with the ornaments. When mine hit the side of the tank it sounds lke a god damn train wreck.
TANKBUSTERS!!! TANKBUSTERS!!! TANKBUSTERS!

They are the body builders of the store bought fresh water fish. If you have any openings in the top of your tank they will use their supernatural strength to shoot gallons of water on to your floor sure to piss off your parents or worse your wife.

For feeding, they are a finicky breed. They will eat one thing for a week and utterly refuse it the next. They like fresh baby spinach, algae wafers(gets expensive),zucchini, large floating pellets/Koi Food), and sometimes a bitesize bananna piece, peas, or grapes.

For the light hearted pet keeper these are not the fish for you. The smaller the tank the more maintainence and attention they'll need. With all the store bought pet foods, mostly algae wafers, and water conditioner we've spent enough to go on our vacation to Italy a few times. Seriously! These guys are for someone who plans to spend a lot of money/time/and TLC on a proper setup and food/supplies to keep these big beauties alive for their 10+ year reputed lifespan.
