I have an outdoor pond, large galvanized tub with water spilling into it... have kept gold fish in it or some time...but it seems everytime I change the water (maybe every 4 weeks) and put my fish back in, they huddle in a corner and then die.
I put the chlorine stuff in it,, the right amount..I let them stand in a bag of the previous pond water before releasing them into the new fresh water... what am I doing wrong? I feel terrible that I'm losing them but can't figure out why.
Do you think it could be something in the sponge I'm using to clean/wipe out the tub?
I love having fish but I can't continue if I just keep killing them.
Help/suggestions please????

Try letting the water stand for a couple of days before adding the fish.
Also, avoid changing all the water at once. Try changing only half at a time
and then let water stand for a couple of days before adding the fish.

I wouldn’t use any chemicals or soap to clean the tab, water only.

Maybe you have put chemicals in the sponge you use before. DON'T DO THAT. Also maybe you should think about putting placos or catfish in there so they can clean out the algea.

Don't replace all of your water at teh same time. Leave your fish in teh pond and only replace half of it. Fish need water that already has baterial in it. By taking all teh water out you kill teh bacterial that fish need to live. 100% water changes are basically homicide to your fish.
