I have one oscar in 30gal aquarium. His scales are falling off and he scrapes his body against the rocks. He also has a film on him. Several time I have put Cure-Ick (which says that is also cures Protozoan parasites which I think is what he has) in the tank, but it never seems to go away. I have also tried anitbiotics and Cure-fungus. I have also drained the tank and then put in the medicine and it keeps coming back. No other fish are in the aquarium. Thank you. IP: Logged |

It sounds to me that you just have an aggressive fish. We've had many Oscars and they sometimes will ram the rocks on the bottom of the tank. The film on his body is probably a natural-like healing process. Like a scab....If you've ever touched him while he's swimming at the top of the tank- he's naturally slimy. You can try and make sure you don't have rocks and other objects w/ sharp edges in the tank but they will still run into the sides of the tank. As long as he has a healthy appetite I wouldn't be too worried. Good Luck! IP: Logged |

its sounds like a water problem, the loss of scales is probably due to the fish rubbing on rocks, a good water change might help, big fish produce a lot of waste so ensure a good filter and regular water changes, that is about 10% every week IP: Logged |
